Meet Marina Nichols - Rootstown High School Senior

As a high school senior, it can be easy to start feeling burnt out and overwhelmed. With the pressures of college applications, AP classes, and extracurricular activities, it can be tempting to just focus on getting through the year and checking off boxes. Many seniors also catch the incurable illness - SENIORITIS. However, Marina looked at it differently and she decided to stay involved and continue pursuing her passions and interests. During senior year Marina played volleyball, was on National Honor Society, a member of the Leo's Club, read to second graders with a group called Second and Seven, was on Youth Safety Council, Prom Committe, and Student Council. Marina has also been elected as the class president of the Rootstown High School class of 2023. Staying involved has provided Marina with a sense of fulfillment and purpose and it has also helped her stay focused on her future goals.

I met Marina and her mom when they grabbed the very last senior session that I had available for the class of 2023. I am forever grateful for this because I was able to meet two of the nicest gals out there. Like mother, like daughter as they say.

We spent a late summer afternoon exploring all the nooks and crannies of Mill Creek Park's Fellowside Gardens. Marina said she had so much fun having her senior pictures taken. She never imaged she'd be running, jumping and laughing during the shoot. She said there was never a dull moment, and she really enjoyed the experience. Not to mention she killed every shot. From my standpoint, she was a photographer's dream.

A highlight of Marina's senior year was the night that she was selected to be homecoming queen of her senior class. She considers that the most special award she could receive. Being elected as homecoming queen means that you have been chosen by your peers as a symbol of school spirit and leadership. The title of homecoming queen is awarded to a female student who has displayed exceptional qualities in character, academics, athletics, extracurricular activities and leadership. Being crowned homecoming queen is a significant achievement that can bring a sense of pride and recognition to the individual, their school and the community. Making this night even more special for Marina was being crowned by last year's homecoming queen, who just happened to be her older sister, Delta. Obviously good character qualities run in the family.

Although Marina has had an outstanding high school career, like all teenagers, it wasn't without struggles and tough times. Marina has a favorite quote that has helped her through those tough times. The quote is this: "Never blame anyone in life. The good people give you happiness, the worst people give you lessons, and the best people give you memories." Write that one down, it's a good one to remember.

As I conclude this senior spotlight of Marina, I will include a little clip from our senior session so you can see some of the fun!!!! Marina, it has been a pleasure meeting you and your mom. Thank you for choosing me as your senior photographer and letting me be a little part of your senior year.
