CAPTURING SUMMER VACATION MEMORIES: The Last Summer Vacation

When you're little, summer feels like it stretches on forever—a never-ending sequence of sun-drenched days, ice cream cones, and adventures with friends. Those months between school years were filled with the thrill of endless possibilities. But as we grow older, each summer becomes more precious, especially for high school seniors.

This summer, I had the privilege of photographing my team of senior influencers at a beautiful destination vacation spot, Shangri-La, to celebrate their “last summer vacation” before stepping into the next big chapter of their lives.

Cherishing Every Moment

For these incredible seniors, this summer wasn’t just another break from school—it was a time to savor every moment, every laugh, and every sunset. They knew that their days of summer vacations as they knew them were coming to a close, and they wanted to make every moment count.

With my camera in hand, I wanted to capture the genuine smiles, the joy of friendship, and the carefree spirit that fills the air in the summertime. This was more than just a photoshoot; it was a celebration of youth, friendship, and the magic of summer.

Capturing the Essence of Summer

We chose a stunning vacation spot that had everything a perfect summer day needs: sun, sand, and a sense of freedom. My senior influencers embraced every moment, whether they were splashing in the water or having impromptu dance parties on the beach. Each photo tells a story—of laughter that echoes over the waves, of friendships, and of a summer that they’ll always remember as their last as high schoolers.

From Childhood Summers to Senior Year

These seniors have grown from the early days of running through sprinklers in their backyards to their last carefree summer before adulthood. We talked about their favorite summer memories from childhood—catching fireflies, building sandcastles, and staying up late. Now, their summer favorites have evolved into sunset drives, late-night heart-to-hearts, and spontaneous beach trips with friends.

Senior, Keana Stauffer, from Tallmadge High School, told us that her fondest memories of summer vacation was traveling to her grandmother's house in North Carolina every summer. She remembers going to a rodeo down the street and her grandmother buying her lots of toys during the trips. But she also recalls being so excited to go back to school in the fall that she would beg her parents to go to bed hours before she needed to so she could wake up extra early for the first day of school.

Senior, Lydia Abbuhl, from Aurora High School, also told us that her favorite memories of summer have been the many road trips she has taken with her family and grandparents. She has been to 44 states and has loved every one of them for different reasons.

Senior, Addison Garro, from Newton Falls High School, recalls how she always felt on the last day of school, before summer vacations began. She said, "It was so bittersweet because I was so happy to be home for the summer, but sad to leave my friends".

Making Friends and Building Bonds

Summer has always been about more than just the heat and the holidays; it’s about the people you spend it with. My senior influencers have spent the last few years not only growing as individuals but also forming deep, meaningful friendships. Capturing their joy and camaraderie, I couldn’t help but think of how lucky they are to have each other.

A Summer to Remember

As a photographer, there is nothing more fulfilling than capturing moments that people will cherish forever. This photoshoot wasn’t just about snapping pictures; it was about preserving a piece of their history—a piece of their hearts. These photos will serve as a reminder of their last summer as high school seniors, the last summer where they were kids with nothing but dreams in their hearts and sand between their toes.

I asked senior, Alaina Wood, from Tallmadge High School, if this summer vacation felt different than all the ones that came before it and she said, "I tried not to think about it being my last summer in high school and just tried to savor all the good times and make the best summer memories that I could".

The last summer vacation may feel bittersweet to some, but it is also the beginning of something new. With every click of the shutter, I hope to have captured the essence of who they are right now—young, hopeful, and ready to take on the world.

Here’s to the last summer vacation!!!
