CAPTURING MORE THAN PHOTOS: A Teen Talk on Confidence, Independence & Real-Life Skills

Strong isn’t just a feeling—it’s a skill you learn, a voice you use, and a confidence you carry with you wherever you go.
At Capture Life Photography, that’s exactly what we’re building inside our Teen Team.
If you’ve been following along, you know our Teen Team is about so much more than just photos. While we are known for teen and senior photography in Northeast Ohio, what truly sets this experience apart is the intentional moments we create for these girls to grow into confident, capable young women.
One of the most impactful ways we do that?
Teen Talks.

What Is a Teen Talk?
A Teen Talk is something special we do within the Teen Team—something deeper than a photoshoot.
Think of it like a TED Talk… but better.
It’s a space where girls come together to talk about real-life teen topics, build confidence, learn how to advocate for themselves and their friends, and walk away feeling stronger than when they walked in.
This latest Teen Talk?
It was all about empowerment—and getting your hands a little dirty.

A Story of Strength: Jennifer Cline’s Message
For this Teen Talk, I invited my friend, Jennifer Cline, a social media influencer whose story is one of the most powerful examples of resilience I’ve ever witnessed.
Jen described herself as a “girly girl” through and through—living the life she had always dreamed of. Married, raising her children, remodeling a beautiful century home with her husband Gary… everything felt exactly as it should be.
And then, in an instant, everything changed.
Gary left for work one day and tragically lost his life in a traffic accident.
Suddenly, Jen found herself raising two young children on her own, in the middle of a home renovation, responsible for a house and property she had never had to manage alone.
In the beginning, there was help.
Friends. Family. Support.
But eventually…she realized something so many of us fear: she had to figure it out on her own.
She shared with the girls how overwhelming it felt the first time she had to mow the lawn. How there were projects everywhere that needed attention. How unsure she felt picking up tools she had never used before.
And then she said something I’ll never forget:
“Gary’s tools didn’t know that it wasn’t Gary using them.”
So she picked them up.
And she learned.
That moment became the beginning of her journey—eventually leading her to become a social media influencer, teaching other women how to do the very things she once felt intimidated by.
The message to the girls was clear:
👉 You are more capable than you think.
👉 You can figure things out.
👉 You can take care of yourself if you have to.

From Inspiration to Action: Learning Real-Life Skills
Because empowerment isn’t just something you hear…
it’s something you do.
After hearing Jen’s story, we took our Teen Talk down the road to Garro Tire, where Alex and Jessie Bradley (another powerful woman) gave the girls a hands-on lesson in basic car maintenance and safety.
And this part? It was everything.
Most of these girls are new or soon-to-be drivers. And while getting a license is exciting, it can also feel intimidating.
So we gave them something powerful:
knowledge + confidence.
The girls learned:
How to check their car’s fluids
How to check tire pressure
How to know what their tire pressure should be
And most importantly… how to change a tire
And not just watch—do it.

One by one, each girl:
Loosened the lug nuts
Positioned the jack
Lifted the car
Removed the tire
And put it back on

There were nervous laughs at first…
but by the end?
Confidence.
Real, earned confidence.

Why This Matters (More Than Photos Ever Could)
As a teen photographer in Ravenna, Ohio, I get to capture beautiful images every day.
But this right here?
This is the heart behind everything I do.
The Capture Life Photography Teen Team is made up of girls who are:
Kind
Inclusive
Supportive of one another
Focused on building camaraderie within their schools and across different communities
We talk about real things:
Confidence
Body positivity
Friendship
Finding your voice
Standing up for yourself and others
And moments like this Teen Talk bring all of that to life in the most tangible way.
Because when a girl realizes:
“I can do this.”
“I can figure this out.”
“I don’t have to be afraid.”
That changes everything.

Empowerment You Can Carry With You
This day wasn’t about cars.
It wasn’t about tools.
It was about showing these girls that strength doesn’t always look polished.

Sometimes it looks like:
Grease on your hands
Trying something new
Feeling unsure… and doing it anyway
And walking away knowing: You’ve got this.
