We all know the infamous toy, Barbie Dolls. They play a big part in many of our childhoods. Inspiring girls all around the world to be whatever they want to be. That's just what we did with the teen team on this photoshoot! There's A LOT to cover in this blog, sooooo LET'S GET STARTED!!!
Let's start with some brief history about Barbie.
Barbie, the iconic doll introduced by Mattel in 1959, has become a cultural symbol of empowerment for generations of girls. Over the decades, Barbie has evolved from a simple plastic figure into an emblem of ambition, diversity, and possibility. Barbie, with her fashionable wardrobe and array of accessories allowed girls to imagine themselves in various adult roles.
As societal values and perceptions shifted, so did Barbie. Mattel responded to calls for greater representation by introducing dolls of different ethnicities, body types, and abilities. This inclusivity has allowed girls from diverse backgrounds to see themselves fostering a sense of belonging and self-worth.
The introduction of Barbie dolls with different careers and interests has also emphasized the importance of individuality and the limitless potential for girls.
As our Teen Team continues to advocate for confidence and ambition, we strive to encourage girls to pursue their dreams, break barriers, and believe in their infinite possibilities.
FUN FACT: Did you know, Barbie and Ken BROKE UP in 2004?? But they got back together in 2011!
I bet some of you are wondering how the idea of this photoshoot began. I played a game of mad libs with the girls a few months ago, little did they know, they were helping me create this photoshoot and their limited edition Barbie characters! The girls gave me adjectives, unlikely careers, eras, and told me what they wanted to be when they were five, and that's how our dolls were created!! At another photoshoot, the girls all picked a random envelope that contained the character they had to become for this shoot.
We had a little audience of parents attend our Barbie fashion show and there was a game of trying to guess what career or character each girl was portraying! It was a lot of fun seeing some of their guesses!
The theme of our photo shoot goes beyond that of the toy doll. The theme was "Whatever you are, be a good one". Meaning whoever you are and whatever you do, do it with kindness and character. Whether you're a student, an artist, a doctor, or even a cupcake baker, make sure you do it with all your heart and be the best you can be! Sometimes we feel pressured to be absolutely perfect in everything we do, but truthfully it’s just all about giving your best at whatever you choose to be and if you do that with kindness and character you’ll be the best at it.
Even though we are all on our own path through life, it's still important to support and encourage loved ones who are on a different path! The journey through life can be tough to face alone, so having a strong support system is great to have. Seeing people around you grow on their journey is a beautiful thing, and it's amazing seeing it in real time within the teen team!
Let's talk a bit about some of the silly parts of the shoot. We literally played Barbie’s during this shoot. The girls playing Barbies would put the other girls in different poses and pretend the girls were real Barbies! We definitely got quite a few silly photos and behind the scenes videos while playing Barbie’s.
This shoot was so much fun, and what better way to end a Barbie shoot than watching the Barbie movie!! Remaining dressed as our Barbie characters we headed out to the movie theater.
